Rain-in-Delhi1This season, India has witnessed exceptionally warm winters with temperatures settling above the average normal for most of the days. One of the prime reasons behind the unusual weather can be attributed dry winters.

December witnessed minimal amount of rainfall. January also followed the same route and rains remained far and few during this month also. As per the data from January 1 to February 3, Punjab was rain deficit by 76%, Delhi 85% and Haryana 99%.

However February seems to be the promising one. So far, the month has been performing as per its usual traits. As we enter February, days become sunny and windy, while, nights continue to be chilly.

According to Skymet Weather, night temperatures have been settling below normal across North India and day temperatures have been in mid 20s during last four days.

Also the frequency of Western Disturbances and their induced systems increases as compared to the numbers in January. Although they are of shorter duration in this month and moves away rapidly.

True to its characteristics, we are expecting three back to back Western Disturbances to affect Northwest India in coming days.

The initial Western Disturbance has already given rain and snow of varied intensity over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This system has also induced a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Haryana leading to rain and thundershowers over northern plains.

The weather activity will continue for another two days till February 8.

Thereafter a short break, another Western Disturbance will affect Jammu and Kashmir between February 9 and February 12.

The third one, will approach by February 16 and is likely to affect the weather till February 20. This system will be an active one and we could except good rain activity both in terms of intensity and spread as compared to the last ones.

Apart from North India, it will also give weather over parts of Central and East India.

These weather systems also influence the wind pattern over Northwest India. After their arrival, warm and humid southwesterly winds from Arabian Sea start governing both the minimum and maximum temperatures.

In wake of the upcoming weather system, minimum temperatures will increase significantly across the region. While, maximum will decrease slightly.

Last 10 days of February starts setting the trend of exit of winters and inching closer towards summers.
