Parts of Maharashtra including Raver, Beed and Yavatmal were lashed by hailstorms yesterday. According to some media reports, the banana plantation in the region has suffered damage due to the unseasonal hailstorm. Also, Vidarbha, Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra will continue to get fairly widespread rain for the next 2 days. One or two places in the state may receive heavy rain.
A cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and a trough from the system runs up to Tamil Nadu across Maharashtra and Karnataka. Moist winds from the south west direction coming from the Arabian Sea will be feeding moisture to the system which will further induce cloud formation. One or two places in Maharashtra and Vidarbha may get squally winds along with hailstorm.
Due to rainfall in the region, the day temperatures have been recording below normal by 7 to 10 degrees and are in the lower 30s. By April 16 or 17, the temperatures will crawl back to normal.
According to weather models at Skymet, the region will continue to receive rain for another 24 to 48 hours, i.e., till April 15. Thereafter, due to the weakening of the trough, the weather activity in the region will reduce significantly. The rain belt will move away, however, South Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala will continue to receive rain.
