Last evening, Kutch in Gujarat was jolted by a mild earthquake of magnitude 4.3. However, there have been no reports of damage or casualty.

The 4.3 magnitude quake hit the region at around 7:01 pm wherein the epicenter of the earthquake being 23 km north northeast of Bhachau in Kutch. This quake occurred a few hours after a mild earthquake had hit the same region, which was around 340 km from the city of Ahmedabad.

Yesterday morning at 9:22 am, another area in Kutch had witnessed an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on the Richter Scale, which lay around 16 km west northwest of the Dudhai region very close to where the second quake occurred.

The Gujarat region as such is not a very preferred belt as such because of the area not being an active seismic zone region. The earthquake in this region is not a very frequent affair. However, wherever faults occur, quakes do make an appearance.

In fact, on January 26, 2001, the state of Gujarat did see a massive earthquake of magnitude 7.7 on the Richter Scale had throttled the region for two straight minutes resulting in massive destruction and devastation. Close to 20,000 people had died while over 1.5 lakh injured with at least 4 lakh homes being destroyed.
