Two consecutive weeks of good rains seen in JulyThe first ten days of the month of July remained poor Pan India. In fact, between July 1 and 15, pan India rains were deficient to the tune of -15 percent. In fact, rains on a daily basis were also below the normal levels during this time.

The week between July 12 and 18, was the best performing week so far with a surplus of 20 percent during that time. In fact, the heaviest spells of daily rains were seen during this season wherein the country recorded 13 mm of rains against 9.6 mm on July 13 and July 17 was even better with rains being at 14.2 mm against 9.9 mm.

However, East and Northeast India were deficient during this time also, wherein the deficiency during the week settled at -54 percent. Meanwhile, Northwest India was rain deficient by 7 percent. However, Central India saw excess rains to the tune of 76 percent and South India was surplus by 41 percent, rainfall wise.

July Rains

With this, July came to normal at 0.6 percent. Talking about the week between July 19 and 25, performance was satisfactory, and a mix of good and not so good rains was seen. The overall rainfall percentage during the week was -2 percent. Due to good rains over these two weeks, the rain deficiency from -9 percent came down to -2 percent.

East and Northeast India performed slightly better with rainfall deficiency being at -26 percent while Northwest saw surplus rains of 5 percent that week. Central India remained rain surplus by 21 percent while South India saw a rainfall deficiency of -21 percent as rainfall was very little over the region.

Now, the rest of July will remain a shade lower than their normal as the Monsoon trough will shift to the foothills of the Himalayas. However, good rains will be seen over Indo Gangetic Plains including foothills of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh. Northeast India will also see good rains for the next few days.
