Northeast Monsoon has lashed the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai. In the span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Minambakkam Observatory of Chennai witnessed three digit rain to the tune of 169 mm and Nungambakkam Observatory 116 mm of rain.

Heavy traffic jams and watterlogging has created a chaotic situation across the city. Places such as Prangipettai, Cuddalore and Karaikal witnessed heavy showers. The heavy showers are likely to continue over the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai for the next two to three days.
The intensity of rain will be less in the interior districts of Tamil Nadu as compared to coastal districts. Schools have been shut down and as per media reports one has been reported dead in Thanjavur.
