Twin low pressure area has formed in the past 24 hours, escalating monsoon activity over many parts of the country. The low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal(BoB), off Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coast had formed earlier on 11th July. It persisted over the same region on 12th and is now marked partly over land and remaining over the sea. It is likely to shift inland completely over next 24 hours to invigorate monsoon activity over Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and eastern sub divisions of Maharashtra.
A cyclonic circulation persisting over Northeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Gujarat region over the last 48 hours has reorganized to turn in to a maiden low pressure area. This weather system is now lying over South Gujarat and Arabian Sea with cyclonic circulation up to mid tropospheric levels. Under its influence, active monsoon conditions are likely over South Gujarat, Saurashtra, Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra.
Combined effect of these 2 systems is extending a shear line, from west to east across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Low pressure area over BoB is likely to move inland and travel across North Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Heavy rains are likely over these parts over next 3 days. West Coast and Gujarat is expected to get flooding rains during this period. Finally, both these systems will merge together and cause intense rains till 16thJuly.
Remnant of this merged system will travel across South Rajasthan and move as a weakened cyclonic circulation over parts of East Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana and neighborhood. This will activate the monsoon trough all along the Indo Gangetic plains. Heavy rainfall will occur over Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Northeast Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal between 17thand 22nd July. Rainfall belt will keep shifting eastward and the monsoon trough drifting closer to the foothills slowly. Fresh weather system will be required to pull it down to activate the next cycle of monsoon rains.
