There are two hurricanes seen in close proximity over the Atlantic Ocean. This is the peak of hurricane season as such and storms are expected to throng these areas. However, two storms in the close proximity and both the storms making landfall in quick succession almost over the same location are nearly unprecedented.
The hurricane Marco is in the Gulf of Mexico and has since been downgraded to a tropical storm with a wind speed of 130kmh. Landfall is expected on Monday night(ET) along the coast of Louisiana. Even after striking, the storm is going to brush the coast moving parallel for nearly 24hr. It is likely to weaken after reaching close to Houston.
The second storm Laura is going to strengthen to possibly a cat 3 hurricane over the next 48 hours. It is expected to make landfall on the US mainland on Wednesday night, once again over Louisiana coast. Barely after Marco vacates on Tuesday, Laura arrives to batter without giving a breather. Both the hurricanes will be hitting within miles of each other in a short span of 48hr. This certainly is going to be unprecedented and go in records as ‘first’ of its kind.
