Twin Cyclonic Circulations to give more Monsoon rains over Gujarat

The state of Gujarat has been receiving good Monsoon rains for quite some time now. In fact, the month of August has been good as the state has witnessed a few good spells on several occasions with isolated heavy rainfall as well.

The last 24 hours have not been as good but a few cities have recorded light rainfall. During the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday to 5:30 am on Monday, Rajkot received 3 mm of rain, and Veraval 2 mm. Traces of rain have also been witnessed in Surat, Porbandar and Ahmedabad.

At present, the state of Gujarat is under the influence of two weather systems. Both of them are cyclonic circulations and are expected to enhance the ongoing weather activity. One of the circulations is over the Kutch region adjoining South Pakistan. The other one is over South Gujarat and neighbouring areas.

Due to both these weather systems, good rains are expected over both the Kutch region as well as the South Gujarat region during the next 24 hours. At present the state of Gujarat is 18 percent rain deficient making it fall under the normal rains category. As far as sub-divisions are concerned Saurashtra is only 12 percent deficient whereas the Gujarat region is observing a rainfall deficiency of 21 percent.
