Tuticorin has been receiving good rainfall since the beginning of the month. Light to moderate spells became almost a daily affair. Nevertheless, Northeast Monsoon rains were subdued over the region during the last 3 days.
The city has already crossed the monthly average rainfall. As of today, December 19, the cumulative rainfall for the city stands at 220 mm.
South Tamil Nadu received widespread light to moderate rainfall during the last 24 hours. The cyclonic circulation over Comorin and adjoining region is responsible for the widespread rainfall. But, rainfall in Tuticorin was due to a localized buildup of cumulonimbus clouds over the area.
Reduced rainfall activity will continue over the region for next 24 hours.
