As the Very Severe Cyclone keeps nearing Bangladesh coast, threat of inclement weather also keeps mounting for the neighboring Indian mainland. The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Bulbul now lies near 20.4-degree North and 88-degree East about 280 km South of Kolkata. The system is tracking northwestward and is moving at a speed of 13 kmph for the past 6 hours. It might make a landfall over Khepupara today evening or tomorrow morning.

The system is likely to weaken rapidly after landfall while continuing to head in Northeast direction. It is very likely to affect the southern parts of Northeast states.

Due to the approaching Cyclone, clouding has already increased significantly over Northeast states. Northeasterly winds are blowing over the region with a speed of around 15-20 kmph. Also, a few areas have received moderate spells in some southern Northeast states like Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya. While Lengpui received 28 mm rains, Rangamati 18 mm, Imphal 11 mm, Halflong 9 mm, Shillong 9 mm, Kailashahar 5 mm and Silchar received 3 mm rains.

These states will continue to receive moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spells. The wind speed is likely to increase gradually till today night as we expect the system to make a landfall over Sundarban delta by tonight or tomorrow early morning. Maximum wind speed over the area will be around 30-40 kmph and may gust up to 50 kmph.

The rain intensity will decrease gradually thereafter but the effect will continue for the subsequent 12 hours. Rain and thundershowers will continue mainly over Southern parts till the evening of November 10. Most parts of Tripura and Mizoram will be affected. These rains are also expected in parts of South Assam, and Meghalaya.

The rain intensity will be light to moderate while light rains are expected at scattered places over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and northern parts of Assam.

Weather will improve over the region post-November 11.
