We couldn’t be more proud of Sikkim for being the world’s first 100 percent organic state. Out of a total of 51 nominations from all over the world, the state has won the prestigious title of ‘Future Policy Gold Award from the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)'. The award was received by the Chief Minister, Pawan Kumar Chamling from the Deputy Director of the FAO organisation, Maria Helena Semedo.

More popularly known as the ‘valley of rice’, is famous for its breath taking beauty and vibrant local culture. The beauty attracts thousands of tourists who flock from different corners of the world to get the touch of clear blue skies and its ever green environment.

By wining this award, Sikkim has definitely set the bars very high. The state’s clear focus was to bring a revolution in the entire food system and spread the idea of organic farming. The revolutionary techniques have helped 66,000 farmers in adopting sustainable and chemical- free farming.

Not only introducing organic farming was the state’s only goal, but it has also been able to solve other serious issues like rural development, sustainable ways of tourism and improving the market conditions leading wider growth and expansion.
