As winters have marked their arrival over most parts of northern India, one or two places over the northeastern states along with parts of West Uttar Pradesh and Punjab have been under the influence of dense fog today early morning. Most of the places have recorded low or nil visibility.
Visibility in places like Agartala was 50 m, Amritsar recorded zero visibility, Delhi Palam airport recorded visibility of 200 m, Lucknow witnessed 50 m visibility and Varanasi recorded a visibility of 50 m.
Due to the dense fog enveloping almost the entire northern region particularly the national capital and adjoining areas, most of the flights and trains have either been canceled or delayed. Close to seven flights from the Indira Gandhi Airport, Delhi has reported late departure while two flights have canceled the departure.

The National Railways have also announced delays and cancellation of 130 trains running on their respective routes since yesterday. The train status can be checked through the given link: Train Status
As iterated by Skymet Weather, the change in wind pattern from northwesterly to easterly winds that has led to an increased humidity levels have been said to be the real cause of the widespread fog that has been engulfing the northern region of the country.
Moreover, light wind speed and dropping minimum temperatures have added to the fog development.
However, now, a gradual decrease in fog formation is expected over the northern plains in another 24 hours including West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab. However, parts of northeastern states will still be under the influence of dense fog.
