Updated on July 28, 2019 at 10:30 am: Very heavy rains expected over South and Southwest Rajasthan today

During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rain and thundershowers occurred over the state.

Now, we expect these rain activities to continue over the state. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected over many parts of Rajasthan in the next two days. Today, we expect the rain intensity to shift over South and Southwest Rajasthan.

A few places like that of Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, Rajasmand, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Jaisalmer, Pratapgarh, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Bundi and Tonk might witness very heavy rains today.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the Cyclonic Circulation persisting over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh. The axis of Monsoon Trough is also passing through Western parts of Rajasthan.

Weather will start clearing up from July 30 onward and rains will decrease from the state. However, another spell of rain is expected to approach Northern and Eastern parts around August 1 and 2.

Due to recent rains in the state of Rajasthan, East Rajasthan is now surplus by two percent. While West Rajasthan is still rain deficient by 38%. In the past 24 to 48 hours, heavy to very heavy rains have been observed in the eastern districts of Rajasthan, particularly, Pilani, Churu, Sikar. Like for instance, in the past 24 hours, Ajmer recorded 64.2 mm of rains while Jaipur witnessed 84 mm of rainfall with Chittorgarh recording 31 mm of rains.

Pilani, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh and Sawai Madhopur have recorded heavy to moderate rains. These hefty rains were in the wake of the axis of Monsoon Trough which was passing through Phalodi and continuing till the eastern parts of the country. Now, we expect the Monsoon rain activities to shift to southern districts of Rajasthan as the Cyclonic Circulation that is over South Uttar Pradesh will also move toward the South along the axis of Monsoon Trough. Hence, the shifting of these two weather systems toward the South will result in increased rainfall activities. Places like Bhilwara, Pali, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Sirohi, Jalore, and Barmer are likely to witness moderate to heavy rains. While Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Banswara will witness light to moderate rains. Hence, the rains will be more over the southern districts today and tomorrow leading to widespread flooding and water-logging.

Already, Jaipur, Tonk, and Sikar are facing a flood-like situation in many places and have affected the normal day to day life. Hopefully, these rains will help in pulling down the deficiency levels.
