Torrential rains lashes hills of North India; rains to reduce soon

Monsoon rains over the three hill states of North India have been continuing for the last many days. In fact, apart from the rains, incidences of cloudbursts, landslides, and mudslides were also reported.

On the past day, torrential Monsoon rains lashed parts of Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh with some moderate to heavy rains over Uttarakhand. These regions are already battling with flood-like conditions and submerged roads. The communication lines are reported being snapped along with power outages in some parts. Some areas have even reported washed away roads due to intense water-logging.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, Dharamsala recorded a whopping three-digit rains to the tune of 116 mm, followed by Batote at 60 mm, Qazigund at 59 mm, Nahan 53 mm, Katra 51 mm, Muktehswar 49 mm, Mandi 41 mm, Nainital 39 mm, Jammu 39 mm, Shimla 27 mm, Tehri 26 mm, Uttarkashi 22 mm, Una 21 mm, Kalpa 20 mm, Mussorrie 20 mm, Solan 20 mm, Dehradun 17 mm, Manali 15 mm, Keylong 7 mm, and Srinagar witnessed 6 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now also, moderate rains with few heavy spells are likely to continue for another 24 hours as the convergence of easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal is still over the Western Himalayan region.

Although the axis of Monsoon trough which was running close to the foothills has shifted south and at present is passing through North Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh. In addition to this, a well-marked low-pressure area has also developed over the western parts of the country which will travel towards Central India. Due to this, rains are exp to reduce over these three states after 24 hours.
