Torrential rains lash Jaipur, Mount Abu; flood likely in Udaipur, Barmer

Rajasthan had been praying for good rains from last many days but was unfortunate to witness good showers especially during the first few days of July. However, now the scenario has completely taken a U-turn and now heavy rainfall had been witnessed by Rajasthan on the third consecutive day as well.

So much so that some three-digit rains also embarked the desert state of India alarming flood-like situation in many districts of the state. In fact, districts such as Barmer, Jalore and Sirohi and Pali were even victims of inundating roads and structural damages due to flooding rain water. In Jaipur also, roads were submerged under rain water that made the locals to paddle through knee-to waist deep water.

The only hill spot of the desert state, Mount Abu is also reeling under incessant rains. As hefty rains have created chaos over Mount Abu as well.

Such torrential rains have even led to school closures across many areas. Vehicular traffic was also affected as several main highways and village roads were also submerged under flooding rains.

Though as compared with the last 48 hours rainfall, the rain intensity over the districts of Rajasthan had reduced in the last 24 hours. Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Jaipur recorded 65 mm of rains, Barmer 40 mm, Udaipur 33.1 mm, Bundi 30 mm, Bhilwara 20.2 mm and Jodhpur recorded 11 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area which is over South Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Moreover, the Monsoon trough is also passing from Bikaner to the northeast Bay of Bengal. In the wake of both these weather systems, rains occurred over Rajasthan.

Moreover, this low-pressure area is expected to persist over the region for another 24 hours and hence, Rajasthan, mainly the districts of Southeast Rajasthan such as Barmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Chittorgarh, may record some heavy to extremely heavy rains. Moreover, Jaipur is also expected to witness good rains over as well.
