Monsoon rains in Uttarakhand continue to wreak havoc over the entire state. As reiterated by Skymet Weather, heavy to very heavy rains over the state of Uttarakhand have caused immense trouble reminding people of the 2013 floods which had claimed several lives.
Heavy rainfall in the Srinagar district of Uttarakhand has also resulted in the swelling up of the River Alaknanda. In fact, the river has reached its danger levels. Also, due to the spate in River Ganga several temples including the Gangotri temple have also been submerged.
Due to heavy rainfall in the state during the past 24 hours, waterlogging has been observed in Haldwani and a few adjoining areas. Gomukh trek has also been closed in view of heavy rainfall in Uttarkashi. Two bridges in Chirwasa and Deogarh have also been washed away.
In Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, heavy rainfall along with landslides have caused around 22 roads to be blocked in many villages.
Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the Badrinath yatra has also been disrupted as the Himalayan shrine has been choked with boulders which have fallen from the hillsides due to landslips in the area.
The state should be on alert as heavy to very heavy rain is expected to continue over Uttarakhand during the next 24 to 48 hours. In fact, the possibility of extremely heavy rains at a few places also cannot be ruled out. Residents should be on alert and people living in low lying areas should move to safer places.
