Yamunanagar district, that falls in the foothills of Haryana, recorded extremely heavy rainfall in span of six to nine only. According to the data recorded by Skymet AWS, Taranwala recorded 210 mm of rain from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, while Jagadhri received 383 mm.
This had triggered flood-like situation across the district, bringing it to the halt for nearly seven to eight hours. National highways were closed as rain water had inundated several streets. Flood water had also gushed into the houses and schools, leading to the panic situation.
Several trains were also diverted and delayed because of the incessant Monsoon rains flooding railway tracks as well. Fire brigades were pressed in for the relief operations.
Not only Yamunanagar but neighbouring parts have also recorded moderate to heavy showers on Thursday.
According to Skymet Weather, rains were due to the upward movement of the Monsoon trough, which is now running along the foothills of Himalayas.
In wake of this, several parts of Haryana, particularly foothills will continue to witness rains of varying intensity for next 3-4 days.
