As predicted by Skymet Weather, for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, Mumbai witnessed three-digit rainfall to the tune of 106 mm in mere nine hours from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

With this, Mumbai has recorded recorded 860 mm of rain in span of 10 days, surpassing its monthly average rainfall of 840 mm. And with more rains in offing, Mumbai rains are all set to even surpass the four-digit mark of 1000 mm soon.

According to weathermen, we can expect more rains tonight as weather conditions will continue to be favourable. However, some relief is in sight from tomorrow as rains are likely to reduce slightly but moderate showers would still continue.

Heavy Mumbai rains continued to the lash the maximum city for the third consecutive day. In fact, last 24 hours saw rains taking a vigorous turn as Santa Cruz Observatory recorded 184 mm of rain. Colaba was also not far behind that recorded 166 mm of rain.

According to weathermen, incessant rains continued to lash Mumbai throughout the day, but it was night which saw the maximum amount of rain. Monsoon continues to be active over Mumbai and at present also, rains are lashing several parts of the city.

In span of last six hours from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, the city has already recorded 46 mm of rain. Weather conditions continue to be favourable for more heavy rains and thus, Mumbai is all set to see another spell of three-digit rainfall for the fourth consecutive day.

These torrential showers have brought the city to halt, with most of the city roads and streets submerged in water. Flights and trains are already running behind the schedule with tracks and runway flooded with several feet of water. Besides this, high tide further aggravates the situation which throws water back from the sea to the city. Looking at this, local administration has closed the schools to avoid any untoward incident.

This system has also kept the off-shore trough along the West Coast active. Both the systems will continue to give heavy to very heavy rains over the region during the next 24 hours. Rains might reduce slightly after the next 24 hours but moderate showers with some heavy spells will continue. Mumbai has already recorded 754 mm of rain in span of mere 10 days. From July 1 to July 10, the city witnessed three-digit rainfall on five occasions – July 2 (131 mm), July 3 (118 mm), July 7 (131 mm), July 8 (122 mm), and July 9 (184 mm). With this, the city is not very far away from its daunting monthly rainfall target of 840 mm. In fact, we might see the city surpassing this mark within 24-48 hours only.
