Torrential Monsoon rains have made a comeback over Bhopal, with city recording whopping 110 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday. Moreover, these rains are likely to continue over the city for next 48 hours as well.
With this, the city has so far recorded 547 mm of rain, surpassing its monthly average rainfall of 371.6 mm.
According to Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation that was prevailing over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas has now shifted over Central Madhya Pradesh. This system is now affecting the weather over several parts of state including Bhopal.
Moreover, the axis of Monsoon trough has also shifted southwards and is running across the plains of North India. This is further enhancing the rain activity over the state.
As we proceed further, interaction between both the system will continue pounding rains over Bhopal for at least two days.
These fresh rains can be touted as the second rainy spell of the month. Prior to this, the city had witnessed a prolonged rainy spell that had lasted for more than a week.
During that time, Bhopal had recorded 175 mm of rain on July 9, which was also the highest rainfall received in span of 24 hours during the last 10 years.
