Torrential Monsoon rain in Uttarakhand claims 12 lives, schools closedHeavy to very heavy rain in Uttarakhand has once again wreaked havoc over the state increasing the death toll to 12. Conditions have worsened as incessant rains have only increased over the hilly state of North India.

Looking at the flood situation, many districts including Nainital, Pauri, Uttarkashi, Tehri and others have closed schools until Tuesday. However, schools in Dehradun as well as Champawat districts remain closed.

In an unfortunate incident, four youngsters from Rishikesh in a jeep were buried under a debris of landslide near Narendra Nagar due to which the Rishikesh-Gangotri highway remained closed throughout the day.

The Char Dham Yatra was also disrupted as heavy rain continued over the state as both the Rishikesh-Kedarnath national highway between Gaurikand and Sonprayag as well as the Rishikesh-Bardinath highway remained closed due to landslips over the area.

AS per reports, while heavy rain has damaged many bridges, over 440 roads which includes a few national highways as well were blocked. Haridwar has also not been spared as River Ganga almost reached its danger mark. A few teams of the Haridwar Police along with five rafts are on alert in case of any mishap.

Now, heavy rain will continue over the state of Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. However, the situation is likely to improve thereafter.
