Southwest monsoon has advanced further. It has reached Goa along the West Coast and Narsapur-Kakinada on the East Coast. There is no change on the eastern front and the Northern Limit of monsoon continues to pass through Islampur. The Arabian Sea branch is likely to move further along the coast to enter Maharashtra, covering entire Karnataka, some more parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, over the next 4-5 days.
Monsoon is likely to advance further over the Konkan region. It is expected to make a timely onset over Mumbai. The financial capital is likely to have pre-monsoon showers, light to moderate intensity, over the next 3-4 days. The spread and intensity are likely to increase between the 09th and 13th June. The southwest monsoon will reach the city and suburbs during this period and make a timely onset.
Last year, the monsoon current got stalled after the initial advance along the Kerala- Karnataka coast. Mumbai had to wait for nearly two weeks for ingress of monsoon. There is no repeat likely and the monsoon may knock on or before the scheduled date of 11th June. Moderate showers, interspersed with heavy rainfall are expected between the approaching weekend and mid-week next. Typical Mumbai rains may lash the city on one or two days during this period.
