The national capital of Delhi and adjoining cities have not received rains for a long time. In the plains of North India, there is usually a lot of rain in February, but this time the weather has been dry in the month of February. Except for early February, the weather remained dry for the rest of the month. The dry spell over the plains of North India is now coming to an end as the weather conditions have been favourable for rain and thunderstorms in many areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, Faridabad including Delhi.
At present, an active western disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir and due to this, the cyclonic system developed over Pakistan has reached northwest Rajasthan and adjoining Haryana. Due to both these weather systems, there is already rain and snowfall in the mountains, while the weather in the plains states will be stirring now. Rain and snowfall are seen in many areas from Kashmir to Uttarakhand.
The weather changes in the plains of North India may come later in the afternoon and in Delhi NCR this evening or at night. Some places may experience thunderstorms with light rain or light rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Although the possibility of a huge change in the weather is not expected, the dry spell will definitely break. The movement in the weather can persist even at night and intermittent rains with thunderstorms may occur.
The weather will over again become clear in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi from March 9 as these weather systems will move in the eastern direction. However, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh, may experience rain activities till tomorrow.
After this system has progressed, another active western disturbance is coming from behind whose effect will be visible in the hill states of North India from the night of March 9 or morning of March 10 and will last for several days. Due to the upcoming seasonal system, there is a possibility of more rain and snowfall in the mountains. The ensuing system will be relatively more active and will give more rain and hailstorm over the mountains for a longer period of time.
Due to the current weather system, there are chances of rainfall during the evening or at night in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Ludhiana, Patiala, Moga. Similarly, chances of rainfall during the evening or at night in Chandigarh, Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Panipat, and Sonipat. In western Uttar Pradesh, there are chances of hailstorm in Meerut, Moradabad, Saharanpur and adjoining parts.
