Thunderstorm, Rain in Nagpur likely in next few days

January 13, 2016 12:00 PM |

Nagpur rainAfter remaining dry for almost half of January, Nagpur weather is expected to witness a rainy spell in coming days. Rainfall in Vidarbha, Maharashtra is likely over the next four days, after which the rain belt will shift towards Central India.

Vidarbha that usually receives scanty rainfall was blessed with good rainfall during the Southwest Monsoon 2015 as the rainfall deficiency was nearly normal at -11%, better than the highly deficient Marathwada. Though the rainfall deficiency in Vidarbha increased post that and stood at -91% as Northeast Monsoon 2015 mostly concentrated at Tamil Nadu.

We are almost half way through January and parts of Maharashtra have not received any rain so far. The dry weather is also affecting the production of rabi crops sown and grown in these areas which include gram, jowar and other citrus fruits.

Nagpur and other parts of the region too have been witnessing maximum temperature settling 2-3 degrees above than the normal for past few days.

However, this rainy spell is likely to bring respite from the discomforting weather for next few days. The dry northerly winds from the plains of North India and anticyclone over Andhra Pradesh coast and adjoining Odisha together will be instrumental in bringing light to moderate rain for next four days over Vidharbha region.

Akola, Chandrapur, Nagpur and Gondia are most likely to start receiving rain January 15 onwards. Rain is likely to increase in intensity over Nagpur and adjoining areas on January 16 and 17, decreasing thereafter.
