Delhiites were caught unaware on Friday night as dust storm followed by thundershowers lashed the national capital. We have entered the season when even small triggers can lead to the development of thunderclouds and bring short and quick spell of rain. Today, we could see some thunderstorm in Delhi-NCR, towards the later part of the day.

Rain was light but widespread in Delhi-NCR. Safdarjung recorded 0.2 mm of rain, Palam 5.8 mm, Gurgaon 10 mm, Ayanagar 13 mm, Faridabad 6 mm, Hindon 6 mm, Meerut 14.2 mm, Najafgarh 2 mm, Ridge 1.8 mm, Rohtak 1 mm and Jafarpur also 1 mm of rain. Other parts of the northern plains like Punjab and Haryana remained dry.

Temperature in Delhi

Till evening hours, there were no dark clouds seen in the capital. Therefore, day temperatures were not affected much. However, at Safdarjung Observatory maximum settled 1 degree below normal at 37.6°C.

Despite rain, Delhiites woke up to a bright sunny Saturday morning. A bright and sunny afternoon could see maximum rise up to 40°C. No relief is likely for next couple of days.

As have been reiterated by Skymet, the periodic passage of Western Disturbances throughout March and April kept the temperatures under check. However, such systems will now remain confined to the higher reaches of North India. Their effects, in terms of rain, will hardly trickle down to the plains.
