As predicted by Skymet Weather, heatwave conditions made a comeback in parts of Maharashtra, particularly in the isolated pockets of Vidarbha.

Heatwave conditions are declared when the normal maximum temperature over any city is or over 40 degree Celsius and is above normal average by 5-6 degrees. In fact, if the mercury surpasses 45 degree Celsius, it is declared heatwave.

On the past day, the temperatures of Bramhapuri and Chandrapur went up by 3-4 degrees and settled at a sizzling 46.7 and 46.4 degree Celsius, respectively. Moreover, Nagpur, Nanded, Parbhani, Wardha, and Akola also reeled under heatwave like conditions with temperatures settling near the 45-degree mark.

The temperatures mounted in parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada as well wherein, heatwave like conditions were observed. On the other hand, the temperatures in Konkan remained near normal and close to 35 degrees Celsius.

As of now, no relief is in sight and the weather of Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan is likely to remain dry and hot. Parts of Vidarbha would also keep whirling under heatwave conditions.

While parts of South Madhya Maharashtra and South Konkan is expected to witness isolated thunderstorm and thundershowers in the next 24 hours. Thus, stations like Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, and Vengurla may get to witness thunderstorm activities.

These thunderstorms would be due to the wind discontinuity running from North Interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. But since these pre-Monsoon activities occur during the late afternoon or evening hours, they would not have any impact over temperature profile.

Thus, the weather of Vidarbha, Marathwada, North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan are likely to remain dry and hot. Parts of Vidarbha would keep whirling under heatwave conditions. In fact, stations like Parbhani, Latur may also come under the ambit of heatwave conditions. But the temperatures in Konkan would stay near normal.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

In the wake of heatwave conditions, farmers are advised to avoid the negative impact of high temperature and to proper spray in the citrus orchard. Farmers should also give support to newly planted pomegranate and sapota plants with the help of sticks.

In view of isolated rain/ thundershowers over Madhya Maharashtra, farmers are advised to keep the harvested produce in safer place. In South Konkan, undertake nursery bed preparation for Kharif rice in harvested fields and complete harvesting of matured groundnut.
