The city of Pune had been witnessing dry weather conditions for quite some time now. The last time the city witnessed some weather activity in terms of rains was on March 19 wherein 5 mm of rainfall was recorded. Since then, the city has not seen any rainy spell whatsoever.
As far as the temperatures are concerned, they have been settling in the higher 30s, close to the 40-degree mark, which usually happens during this period. Yesterday also, the maximum settled at 39.2 degrees Celsius which happens to be a notch above the normal levels. Usually, the second half of April and May are the hottest pockets of the city of Pune.

During the Pre-Monsoon season, the city of Pune does not get affected due to the Peninsular trough, which has an oscillating nature. However, whenever a wind discontinuity occurs, it does affect the weather conditions in Pune.
Such was the case today, when thunderstorm activities are being observed over the city of Pune after a very long dry spell. The temperatures were already too high over the city of Pune. In fact, the city was observing almost hot day conditions which was an added factor in triggering the thunderstorm activity.
As far as the monthly rains for Pune during April are concerned, the city has an average rain of 16.6 mm. So far, not even a millimeter of rain has been recorded.
