The city of Kolkata in West Bengal is one of the rainiest cities among all the major cities of India during the pre-Monsoon and Monsoon season. In fact, during the Monsoon season, Kolkata records rainfall activity exceeding 300 mm. For the month of May, the city’s normal average rainfall is in 3-digit at 133 mm.
This season rains for the city of Kolkata are slightly on the lower side as the city (Dum Dum Observatory) has only recorded 70 mm of rain against its normal of 133 mm followed by Alipore Observatory that has recorded 66 mm/133 mm.
On the contrary the Kolkata district altogether has performed well and currently the region is rainfall surplus by 31%.
During the last 24 hours, the weather conditions over Kolkata were almost dry with partly cloudy sky. Maximum temperature of the city was recorded at 36.7˚C and minimum temperature at 26.7˚C.
Today, we expect thunderstorm activity to occur in parts of Kolkata. No significant weather activities will occur. But in the coming days, patchy pre-Monsoon weather activities might occur in parts of Kolkata district. Maximums of the city will continue to settle mid-30’s and minimums will be around high-20’s.
Thus, we can say that no major weather activities will occur over Kolkata, but still during the late afternoon or evening hours, sky might become cloudy and isolated parts may witness thunderstorm activity.
