In the last two to three days, temperatures in Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad increased, leading to heat wave condition in isolated pockets. But yesterday during late-night hours, thunderstorm, dust storm and light rain occurred in few parts of Delhi and NCR.
These pre-Monsoon weather activities occurred in the wake of a Western Disturbance which is currently affecting Jammu and Kashmir. This system has induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining North Rajasthan. Moreover, humid winds from the Arabian Sea are also increasing moisture over the northwestern plains including Delhi-NCR.
Now we expect on and off pre-Monsoon weather activities in the form of dust storm, thunderstorm followed by rain and thundershowers to occur in parts of Delhi and its adjoining areas such as Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad during the next three to four days i.e. till June 19.
Moreover, in the wake of these weather activities and partly cloudy to cloudy sky, temperatures in the National Capital Region will fall once again. This will lead to abatement of heat wave conditions.
Thus, we can say that a good spell of pre-Monsoon weather activities is expected over Delhi and NCR, as since the last week of May, the region was experiencing a prolonged dry and hot spell.
