Thundershowers revisit Delhi

June 17, 2016 1:32 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Delhi has been witnessing thunderstorm activity accompanied with light rain for the past couple of days. In fact, the national capital also observed similar weather conditions on Thursday night which made the weather slightly pleasant.

The Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded 5.2 mm rain in a span of a few hours along with dust storm and thunderstorm during the late night hours on Thursday. During the entire month, Delhi had experienced dust storms and thundershowers along with light rainy spells in few pockets. These rains were accompanied by strong winds as well.

The change in the weather is due to a trough remaining in close proximity of the city. However, the overall rainfall for the capital city had remained subdued for the entire month. The average monthly rainfall of the city for the month of June stands at 82.2 mm. Till June 17, the city has recorded 7.3 mm rain which is way less than its average monthly amount.

As per Skymet Weather, after June 20, there is a possibility of more rains. However, Monsoon is likely to arrive in Delhi by month end. Until then, residents of Delhi will continue to rejoice as pre-Monsoon activities dominated with thunderstorm, dust storms and light to moderate showers will keep revisiting the city. Mercury is expected to remain below 40°C and keep the scorching summer heat far away.
