Kolkata witnessed good rains during the second half of the week. Cyclone Roanu before making landfall over Bangladesh resulted in good showers over the city of joy. So much so that the city recorded 56 mm of rain in just three days. However, rains gave Kolkata a miss on May 22 leaving the city dry for some time.
Now, the cyclonic circulation which was lying over Jharkhand and adjoining Odisha has currently shifted over Gangetic West Bengal. Due to this circulation, sufficient moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal is taking place over Gangetic West Bengal.
The combined effect of these weather systems may result in scattered light rain and thundershower activity over Kolkata today. These rains are expected to occur during late afternoon or evening hours. However, these showers will not be very intense in nature.
Thereafter, rains over Kolkata will take a backseat. Rains will significantly reduce from the city of joy. Currently, the maximum temperature over Kolkata is settling at around 35.1 degrees which happens to be one degree below the normal levels.
After the rains recede from Kolkata, maximum temperature in the city will witness a marginal rise. In fact, sultry weather conditions will take over resulting in hot weather over the city of joy.
