Thundershowers continue in West Bengal and East India

Thundershowers in West BengalSevere thunderstorm punched with squally winds and good showers lashed many parts of West Bengal on Thursday. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim also received very heavy showers in last 24 hours. Gangtok and Tadong in Sikkim received 73.5 mm and 72 mm, respectively. Rainfall activity is likely to continue in the region for at least another 72 hours. Few places in Chhattisgarh also received some rain.

This storm in West Bengal was a stark reminder of the April 21 weather activity, which lashed three districts of Bihar. The storm left a trail of destruction and claimed 65 lives.

This spell of rain and thunderstorm could be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over east Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. A trough extending from the system up to Karnataka, across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh, will continue to bring scattered rain across the region. Rainfall activity will extend up to northern parts of Odisha and Vidarbha.

Isolated places in West Bengal, Jharkhand and north Odisha could witness squally winds in the tune of 100 kmph. Dust storm and thunderstorms are likely in Chhattisgarh, parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Telangana.
