Pre-Monsoon activity over Kerala including the southernmost city of Thiruvananthapuram has been fairly good this month. The capital city of Kerala has been witnessing good amounts of rain during the last few days.
The last 24 hours were also very rainy for the city as three-digit rains were recorded over the region. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Thiruvananthapuram recorded a whopping 100.2 mm of rainfall.
These rains were attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Comorin region which has been causing rainfall activity over the region. The trough extending up to Kerala has also been responsible for bringing in rains over the region.
The monthly rain for the city for the month of May stands at 191.6 mm and so far, the city has already been able to record a good 183 mm in just about two weeks.

During the last decade, there have been four occasions wherein the city has witnessed rains over 200 mm during the month of May. The highest monthly rain record in a decade stands at 420.8 mm which was witnessed in the year 2016.
Between the years 2008 and 2013, the city witnessed rains less than 200 mm while between 20014 and 2017, rains have been over the 200 mm mark during the month of May before the arrival of Monsoon over the city of Thiruvananthapuram.
As per weathermen, the state of Kerala will continue to witness on and off rainfall activities until Monsoon makes an onset.
