Monsoon is definitely at its peak now as the Southwest Monsoon has covered a large part of the country. As of now, the Northern limit of Monsoon is now passing through Dahanu, Ratlam, Jhansi, Lucknow, Pantnagar, Dehradun, Una and Jammu. Several places in the country have received more than 100 mm of rainfall on Monday.
At present, Monsoon is vigorous along the West Coast and isolated pockets of Northeast India. During last 24 hours, the West Coast has received heavy Monsoon rains in view of the off-shore trough all along the coast. Agumbe in Karnataka recorded 100.6 mm of rainfall while Dahanu in Maharashtra received 116 mm. Canacona in Goa also received a whopping 110 mm of rainfall. Tomorrow, we can expect heavy falls over Coastal Karnataka and Goa region. Rest of the coast will receive moderate showers.
Real Mumbai rains have also begun. On the first day of the arrival of Monsoon, Mumbai received 107 mm of rainfall. Monsoon rains are likely to continue over the region.
The foothills of the Himalayas are also receiving heavy rains. Jalpaiguri in West Bengal received 129.4 mm on Monday. Rains have picked up in Northeast India as well with isolated places receiving heavy showers. Cherrapunji in Meghalaya received 157.6 mm of rain during last 24 hours. Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh has also recorded three digit rainfall of 110 mm.
This is just the beginning and we expect Monsoon rains to gain strength in the coming days. The month of July will definitely be better in terms of Monsoon rains in India.
