Three digit Monsoon rains lash Agumbe, Mangalore, Ratnagiri

Southwest Monsoon made a grand entrance into the west coast of the country. After making a timely onset over the state of Kerala, the Southwest Monsoon at its own pace continued to cover more areas of West Coast.

Today, Southwest Monsoon covered more parts of Maharashtra reaching up to Mahabaleshwar. Conditions are now favourable for the further advancement of Monsoon which means Mumbai will get to see those much-awaited Monsoon rains.

Meanwhile, the West Coast has been recording very heavy to extremely heavy rains. In fact, during the last 24 hours, many parts of Konkan and some areas of Coastal Karnataka have witnessed three digit rains. In fact, a few areas have also recorded more than 200 mm of rainfall. Not only this, heavy rains have also been witnessed over some areas of Kerala.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Shirali recorded a whopping 267 mm of rainfall, with Agumbe witnessing 228 mm of rain. Other areas also witnessed very heavy rains including Mangalore 152 mm, Harnai 144 mm, Ratnagiri 103 mm, Karwar 72 mm, Panjim 62 mm, Cannur 52 mm, Kozhikode 54 mm, Karipur 46 mm and Kochi 43 mm.

These weather conditions have been attributed to the active Monsoon surge. Along with this, a trough is also extending from South Maharashtra up to Kerala coast.

Now, due to this trough, heavy Monsoon rains will continue over the West Coast during the next 24 to 48 hours.
