Southwest Monsoon has finally picked up pace and good rains have been recorded over many regions for quite some time now. The utmost active pockets currently are the West Coast and sub-Himalayan region. Both these areas have recorded heavy to very heavy showers.
A cyclonic circulation is lying over South Gujarat and adjoining North Konkan region. And, an off-shore trough along the West Coast is also a major reason for these good rains over the region.
Keeping the vibrant intensity of Monsoon rainfall in mind, there are places in the country that recorded more than 100 mm of rainfall. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Ratnagiri recorded a good of 162 mm of rain, followed by Harnai where 144 mm of rain was received. Other areas to have received three digit rain include Jalpaiguri 134 mm and Honavar 101 mm.
Heavy rains are expected to continue over the West Coast and sub-Himalayan region. Active to vigorous Monsoon conditions will persist over these areas.
