Since its onset, Southwest Monsoon has been playing hide and seek on a continuous basis. After being slow during the first few days, Southwest Monsoon has finally picked up pace and good rains have been recorded over many areas.
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, the month of June has remained below par so far. However, Southwest Monsoon on the whole as a season will remain above normal.
The per day rainfall figure during entire June has remained on the lower side. So much so that out of 26 days, seven days have recorded above normal rains. While one-fourth of June has received above normal rains, three-fourth of June has recorded below normal rains.
However, rains have picked up pace now. As we proceed towards the end of the month, daily normal has been on a continuous rise. As of today, the country has on an average recorded 132.2 mm of rain. Hence, with three days in hand, a target of 7.5 mm every day is required which does not seem quite daunting as of now.
During the entire month of June, the rainfall figure has not gone over to the surplus side. While the first week recorded 30 percent rain deficiency, the second was much better at 20 percent. However, in the third week, the deficiency once again rose to a 25 percent. Now, during the fourth week of June, rainfall deficiency stands at 16 percent.
The rainfall deficiency is likely to be partially recovered with three days in hand as Monsoon systems in both Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal look promising and good rains are expected. However, the possibility of covering the rainfall deficiency is highly unlikely.
Now, July is expected to be much better in terms of rain. Good rainfall activity is expected over many parts of the country during this month. Also, Southwest Monsoon will also cover almost the entire country in the next one week from now, giving rain over the leftover areas as well.
