Threat Of Storm Over Southwest Bay Remains, Next 24 Hours Decisive, Tamil Nadu to Escape Fury

March 4, 2022 1:14 PM |

Maiden depression over southwest Bay of Bengal has further organized, with sharp features indicating strengthening of the system.  Cloud cluster associated with the depression is more strong and ostensibly shaped better than before, with significant features depicting inflow and outflow.  Dense and circular cloud mass is manifesting further intensification. The concluding phase starts and next 24hr remain decisive.

Presently the depression is centered around 9.0°N and 82.7°E, about 450 km southeast of Chennai.  It is expected to intensify in to a deep depression anytime soon. Most of the weather activity will confine over the Sea, with peripheral of the system spreading some clouds along Tamil Nadu coast. Gusty winds reaching 50-60kmh are expected over southwest BoB and off Tamil Nadu.  Sea conditions will surely be rough and turbulent.

As per Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies ( CIMSS) at university of Wisconsin,  an invest area as a precursor to the storm is marked over southwest BoB.  Also, Joint Typhoon Warning Center at Hawaii has cautioned about likely development of cyclone in the next 24hr, subject to confirmation in the next bulletin.  Environmental conditions remain favorable and do not rule out the possibility of storm.  More authentic  information can be shared after an observational watch of 24hr.

Steering current responsible for the track of any such systems, including this one, is not suggestive of any dangerous impact along the coastline of Tamil Nadu. Even if the storm forms, the state will escape its direct strike and  blustery weather will remain confine over the Sea, off Tamil Nadu coast. Squally winds and thunderstorms with lightening  are likely  at few places like Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Karaikal, Puducherry and Chennai.  However, none of these will have any threat of dangerous and catastrophic damaging potential.

The weather system will linger on in the close proximity, along and off the coast of Tamil Nadu, between 05th and 07thMarch. Models are indicating signs of weakening from 08thMar onward. Southern and central parts of the state  will have scattered pre monsoon thunderstorm on 07th and 08thMarch. Thereafter,  better weather conditions are expected lasting till rest of the week.
