The temperatures in Rajasthan, particularly West Rajasthan are soaring high and this could be a glimpse of the forthcoming summer this year. The weathermen had already predicted the possibility of a harsh summer in 2017.
The scorching summer heat is being witnessed by the states of North India including the desert state of Rajasthan. From the last couple of days, the mercury levels in the ‘Rajputana state’ has been settling between 35°C and 40°C.
The table below depicts the districts of Rajasthan where the maximums settled between close to 40°C on Thursday:
As reiterated by Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. It also has an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan.
In the wake of both these weather systems, a few thunderclouds are expected to develop at isolated places over West Rajasthan. Moreover, as the atmosphere over the desert state is dry and humidity is less, therefore chances of dust storm and thunderstorms are more prominent than the thundershower activities.
Thus, Rajasthan can brace for some short duration sand storm activities to take place particularly during late afternoon or evening today and tomorrow.
In general, dust storms or sandstorms occurs due to the strong winds passing over the loosely soil or sand. As these winds are strong in nature, they pick up the sand particles thereby leading the visibility across the region to drop.
Rajasthan being a desert state is more frequent to witness the dust storms or sandstorms. These sandstorms are also a threat to property and human life.
When the temperatures are high and humidity increases, cumulonimbus clouds also develop. During the pre-Monsoon season, these clouds are capable of causing dust storm and thunderstorm activity which is the case in Rajasthan.
