Good amounts of rain in almost every part of the country has let the week from April 9 to April 15 record surplus rain. This is the third week in a row that the cumulative rainfall has been in excess. According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India, rainfall in the country is excess by 99%.
Barring some parts of North and Northeast India, the entire country has received good rain during the week. For instance, the sub-divisions of Bihar and Jharkhand in East India have been surplus by 401% and 893%, respectively.
In South India, the margin is even higher due to some very good rain. The sub-division of Telangana has received 39.6 mm of rain against 3.5 mm during the week, which is surplus by a whopping 1033%. Similarly Rayalaseema has recorded 45 mm of rain against an average of 3.3 mm.
The scenario in Central India is quite similar to that in South India as the surplus has been whopping in the region. For example west Madhya Pradesh has received 10.9 mm of rain against the weekly average of 0.6 mm. While east Madhya Pradesh has received 25.5 mm of rain against 0.8 mm.
As reiterated by Skymet, parts of North and Northeast India, particularly the hills and the foothills have experienced less amounts of rain which is why Punjab is deficit by 80% during the week from April 9 to April 15. Jammu and Kashmir is deficit by 96%, Himachal Pradesh by 91% and Haryana by 28%.
Out of the 36 sub-divisions 25 have observed surplus rain this week. While one sub-division has recorded normal rain and 4 have been deficient. Only 6 sub-divisions have been scanty.
