Third Car Free Day to curb rising pollution in Delhi

Third Car Free Day will be observed on Tuesday, December 22. The rising pollution levels, which have been a matter of concern lately have forced the government to take appropriate measures. Car Free Day is one of the few measures to combat air pollution in Delhi.

The Car Free Day will be on Vikas Marg between 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, on road number 73, between ITO and Anand Vihar Terminal. For the convenience of the commuters, The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will run eight shuttle buses with the ordinary buses on this route.

Coincidentally, Delhi-NCR is likely to observe smog on December 22 and 23, leading to a significant rise in the pollution levels. With high pollution, a car-free day may be the best bet to at least see some reduction in the smog.

However, it is not just Delhi, which has been reeling under high pollution levels. The NCR region, including Noida and Gurgaon, is polluted enough to cause health problems in the residents. The pollution levels in Ghaziabad are even worse than Delhi, but no such measure has been taken by the government to keep a check.

While Gurgaon has been arranging car-free days, and Noida is making plans to shuffle school and office timings for combating pollution, Ghaziabad has been left far behind. Collective efforts have to be made by Delhi and the NCR region if pollution levels need to be controlled. Without the support of the NCR region, Delhi will continue to remain polluted.
