Almost entire India is experiencing good Monsoon showers as the saga of above 100 mm rainfall continues in the country. Many parts over West Coast have received a 100 mm plus rainfall. The reason for these heavy showers can be attributed to an active off-shore trough running from Gujarat to Kerala.
This trough is giving heavy to very heavy rains all along the West Coast including Bhira, Mahabaleshwar, Surat and many other places in the region. During last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Bhira in Maharashtra recorded a whopping rainfall figure of 261 mm. This was followed by Mahabaleshwar in the same state that observed 185 mm rains.
During the same time frame, many parts of the country have also surpassed 100 mm plus rainfall. The rainfall figures of these places are displayed in the table given below:
It is expected that heavy showers over these regions will continue for another 24 hours. Parts of Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh have received extremely heavy rainfall. The reason behind these heavy rainy spells was a trough that was passing through these areas.
A feeble cyclonic circulation was also over West Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas that helped the good rains over the region.
The low-pressure area that persisted over Odisha, Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal has induced very good rain activities over areas including Ranchi.
Moreover, heavy rains in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya was recorded due to a cyclonic circulation over Assam and Meghalaya.
