Yesterday, i.e. on Thursday, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) made a decision to close the famous Lord Venkateswara Swamy or Tirupati Balaji Temple for the devotees as a precautionary measure against the deadly COVID-19.
Not only this, but as a part of measures to check the spread of Coronavirus, all the malls, as well as, cinema halls would be closed down in the state of Andhra Pradesh until March 31. The announcement came on the day when the state reported its second positive case of coronavirus.
The state government also made arrangements for the screening of devotees as the pilgrims were being checked at the entry points to the hill shrine. With this, sanitation was properly taken care of. The roads, public places, buses were being sanitized continuously.
However, the daily rituals in all these temples will be performed by the priests. But, only the devotees will not be permitted to enter the temple. Major places of worship of other religions would also be closed.
The temple usually gets from 75,000 to 90,000 pilgrims every day. However, this week there were about 30,000 devotees per day. Even that can be a huge health risk. That is the reason that the state government decided to shut the temple to devotees.
