The Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Pakistan and neighbouring areas will move towards the western Himalayan region in the next 48 hours. The system will continue to bring isolated heavy snowfall in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh today and decrease thereafter.
On Monday morning new records were set for the winter season. However, minimums increased significantly today morning, under the influence of the Western Disturbance. Hisar which had recorded the coldest morning minimum at -0.8⁰C in 40 years on the 29th December, has shot up to 9.8 today. Minimum temperature in Ganganagar has also increased from 2.5⁰C to 8⁰C. Night temperatures in Bhiwani and Churu have also risen within a span of 24 hours. Yesterday, Delhi recorded the lowest minimum of 2.4⁰C in more than a decade. Due to clouding and rain minimums have shot up to 10.9⁰C, as the countdown for 2014 began in the national capital. Tomorrow onwards, temperatures are expected to start falling again.
Weather in North India and Delhi will remain cloudy with chances of light rain in pockets. Tomorrow the sky will clear up, bringing down minimums once again. Cold day like conditions will prevail across parts of Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh. Shallow fog will make a comeback in these regions, paralyzing road, air and rail traffic.
Weather in East India will remain dry with dense fog at scattered areas. Shallow fog will continue to engulf few places including SubHimalayan West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Tripura in the next 48 hours.
