Fog, which was engulfing east and central Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, parts of Jharkhand and east West Bengal, is now shrinking. Intensity of fog has also reduced and is expected to further reduce in next 24 to 48 hours. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, winds coming from northwest direction are dry and strong and have led to decrease in fog.
Gorakhpur in east Uttar Pradesh continued to witness nil visibility on Monday morning. Sky remained obscure till the early morning. The city has been observing dense to very dense fog for more than a week now. This was followed by Bhubaneswar at 50 m that witnessed fog for the first time this season. While, Guwahati observed 500 m, Agartala 600 m and Patna and Lucknow both 800 m.
Meanwhile, North India continues to escape fog. For dense fog to occur, humidity plays a vital role. If the humidity is high and wet conditions prevail then fog becomes more frequent and dense. This is something that is not happening in North India currently, where the weather is dry and hence no fog is being observed. However, rain is expected over North India during the weekend, post which we can expect fog over the northern plains.
