The minimum temperatures across most parts of the Northern Plains were slipping even below their normal levels for the last four to five days. However, now the temperature trend has begun to change and a rise in the minimums has been witnessed across parts of North India.
On the contrary, the maximum temperatures across the region were already running above the normal level. For instance, the minimum temperature recorded by Delhi yesterday was 6.4°C which scaled up to settle at 8.8°C. Ambala also witnessed a somewhat similar rise in the temperature profile from 5.8°C to 6.2°C today.

As of now, Skymet Weather anticipates a further rise in the temperature profile. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayan region by January 17. This Western Disturbance will induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan leading to a change in the wind direction.

Thus, with its approach, the dry and cool northwesterly winds will be replaced by warm and humid south westerlies. This wind reversal will, in turn, lead to a rise in the minimums by two to three degrees.
Moreover, the cold wave conditions that were being observed at isolated places of North Rajasthan will also abate. Henceforth, after the passage of the Western Disturbance, that is by January 19, the winds will once again change their direction. During that time, the minimum and the maximum temperatures will once start witnessing a downfall.
