Temperatures to rise further in Gujarat, winters to soon bid adieu

The minimums, as well as maximums, have dropped by 2 to 4 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours. Although, many parts of Gujarat are still experiencing day temperatures in the mid-30s. Both the day and night temperatures in Gujarat are above normal. In fact, the day temperatures are above normal by two to four degrees Celsius, while minimums are above normal by one to two degrees.

For instance, the minimums of Rajkot dropped by three degrees. Yesterday, the city recorded 20 degree Celsius, while now the night temperature has settled at 17 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the night temperature in Surat has come down to 20 degrees Celsius, while yesterday it recorded its minimum temperature of 23.6 degrees Celsius. Porbandar recorded 21.3 degrees Celsius yesterday, while now it has settled at 19 degrees Celsius.

The reason for this drop in minimums can be attributed to the flow of north-westerlies. Also, medium to high clouds are prevailing over the region.

Looking at the weather forecast, we expect medium to high clouds to prevail in many parts of Gujarat during the next 24 hours. This will be due to the merging of dry north-westerlies with humid south-westerlies from the Arabian Sea. These clouds will however not be giving any significant weather activity.

The cloudy skies will start clearing up after 24 hours, following which the day will turn warm once again. Thus, the temperatures will start rising after 24 hours, ruling out the chances of single-digit minimums in Gujarat.

Although the fall will be marginal, the day and night temperatures in Gujarat will start rising once again, from February 17 onwards. Also, this fluctuation in the temperature pattern will, however, continue during the same episode.

So, Winters are almost over for the residents of Gujarat. The day will remain sunny, warm and slightly uncomfortable, while the nights will be comfortable.
