The winter chill has already begun to set in most parts of North India. The hills stations of North India such as Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have recorded rains in the last 24 -48 hours. In addition to the rains, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir such as Sonamarg has even witnessed season’s first snow.
The effect of these rain and snow activity over the Northern hills will be propellered over the northern plains after 24 to 48 hours as well. This would be the time when the Western Disturbance which is presently over Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan will move away eastwards.

Due to its movement, the dry and cold winds from the hills will start affecting the plains of North India such as Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and parts of North Rajasthan.
Owing to these cold winds, both the maximum and minimum temperatures will start dropping. The ongoing pollution levels over Delhi and NCR will also reduce due to this clean air from the North. Currently also, both the maximums and minimums have started to dip and with these cool winds, these are anticipated to plunge further. Already the maximum temperatures are settling in upper 20's in most parts of Northwest India while the minimums are settling in teens.

The minimums across Amritsar and Sri Ganganagar may drop and settle in between 7°C and 10°C, Delhi’s minimum will remain between 10°C and 13°C, Chandigarh 10°C-11°C, Agra between 12 and 15°C, Bareilly 10-13°C, Hisar’s minimum will range from 8°C to 12°C.
With the drop in the temperature profile, many parts of Punjab and Haryana may even experience shallow to moderate fog. Though Skymet Weather predicts that gradually the winds will start picking up the pace and thus the intensity of fog will not be very long lasting and severe.
After 48 hours, the pollution levels are expected to curtail down further, and the minimum temperatures will fall at many places even below 10 degrees.
