After breaking an all-time record on June 10 recording 48 degree Celsius, which was the highest recorded temperature in history for June, now the temperatures of Delhi are on a decrease. After this, on June 11, temperatures decreased by about three degrees and yesterday further by two degrees, coming down to 43 degrees.

Yesterday, an intense dust storm gripped many parts of Delhi and NCR. A few isolated pockets also received rain and thundershower activities. These pre-Monsoon activities led to a significant drop in temperatures over Delhi. At 6:30 pm, temperature of Palam was 40-degree but by 7’o clock it came down to 33-degrees, a sudden drop of 7-degree Celsius. Due to this activity, both night and morning temperatures have become pleasant.

We now expect isolated light rains today as well as on June 13 over Delhi. The weather, however, will clear up on June 14 and 15. Temperatures will once again start rising but we do not expect heat wave to make a comeback anytime soon.

From June 16 to 19, we expect pre-Monsoon activities to make a comeback over Delhi NCR leading to a change in temperatures. Weather may become somewhat comfortable. This is when Delhi will once again see a relief form ongoing hot weather conditions.

These activities will be in the wake of a fresh Western Disturbance affecting the Western Himalayas, inducing a Cyclonic Circulation over Northern Plains. Moreover, easterly winds will also start blowing from Bay of Bengal increasing the moisture content of the atmosphere. The high humidity will induce the formation of convective clouds which will give dust storms, thundershowers and rain activities.

So, we can say that these on and off pre-Monsoon activities are expected to continue until the onset of Monsoon.
