Temperatures plummet as Bangalore continues to receive good rain

Bangalore has been observing rainfall activity for last two days. According to the data available with Skymet Meteorology Division in India,  the city recorded a total of 38 mm rain over the weekend. On Sunday, Bangalore received about 6 mm rain, while on Saturday the city had recorded 32 mm rain.

Looking at the weather models at Skymet, the wet spell is expected to continue in the city for next 48 hours.

Generally, the months of April and May are the hottest for Bangalore. Thunderstorm activity is higher during May and that keeps the temperature under check. But April remains the hottest for the city with the normal maximum temperature being 34°C. The average minimum temperature for Bangalore in the month of April is 22°C. Essentially, days are hot for Bangalore in the month of April.

Even this year, April commenced with excessive heat. At times, the day temperature even crossed 36°C. Bangalore recorded 36.1°C as the maximum temperature on April 4, and 36.5°C on April 5. But with rain lashing the region over the weekend, the temperatures have dropped. Bangalore is now recording temperatures below the monthly normal.

The month of April has witnessed heavy spells of rain in the past as well. In 2011, the city recorded close to 104 mm rain in a single day. This was marginally short of the city’s all-time rain record for April in a single day. In 2001, Bangalore witnessed a record 108.6 mm rain in just 24 hours.
