With Northeast Monsoon weakened considerably, maximum temperatures in coastal areas of Tamil Nadu are settling between 28°C and 29°C, while in interiors they are recording in the range of 32°C and 30°C. Minimums in both the regions are hovering between 22°C and 21°C.
On Monday, Chennai recorded maximum of 29°C and minimum of 23°C, both one degree above normal. Similarly, Coimbatore recorded a maximum of 30°C, one degree above normal, while minimum settled at 21°C, two degrees above normal. Selum also observed day temperature at 31.6°C, one degree above normal. Minimum in the city recorded 18.5°C on Tuesday morning, which is close to normal. Tondi saw maximum and minimum settle at 28.6°C and 22.4°C, respectively, which is close to normal.
In Kerala, temperatures are settling above normal by 2-3 degrees. Kannur recorded a maximum of 33.6°C, one degree above normal, while minimum settled at 24.2°C, two degrees above normal. Kozhikode recorded 34.4°C as day temperature, which is three degrees above normal but night temperature settled close to normal at 23°C. Kochi witnessed maximum of 32.2°C and minimum at 24.6°C, two degrees above normal.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, temperatures will continue to settle on the higher side for next three to four days, reducing thereafter. Good rainfall is expected across the southern peninsular region December 28 onwards, due to a cyclonic circulation brewing in Andaman Sea.
This may be the last good spell of rain as Northeast Monsoon is in its last leg and is expected to withdraw itself completely by month end.
